THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

Sydney, Australia

The creative and stunning design by Danish architect Jørn Utzon (who in 2003 received the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honour) with enormous shell-like roofs was well ahead of its time. Controversy surrounded the building as the project was completed ten years later than anticipated and more than fourteen times over its original budget. No one doubts today its value for Australia as an iconic landmark and a representation of a whole country. It houses both a symphony hall and an o pera hall, and is listed has a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is located on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It sits at the northeastern tip of the Sydney central business district, surrounded on three sides by the harbour (Sydney Cove and Farm Cove) and neighbored by the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The Sydney Opera House is in Australia. It stands 70 feet or 21.3 meters in height. Its depth is 152 feet or 46.3 meters, while its width is 168 feet or 51.2 meters.
